Hill Country Drive (Mild off-roading)

We will meet in the parking lot of Devine Lake to ensure we have space for everyone to park while we wait for everyone to show up.

I have a total of 4 handheld radios we can use to communicate (cell service is often spotty or none) while on the drive. I will have one and hand out three more. Ideally one person who has a radio will stay at the back in case something goes wrong.

The trip is flexible and if everyone agrees, we can make a stop at the Sun Deck, which has a beautiful view of the Texas hill country from high vantage point. We will be doing a large loop and driving down a road that has very few travelers. There is one area that was washed out during the 2025 flood so we will be driving across a rocky river bed that you will want to drive slowly on. Once we get back onto a main road, we have two more opportunities to stop at one of the Balcones Canyonlands Wildlife Refuge locations. They each have restrooms and their own appeal. Again, we can discuss if we want to make those stops or not.

This is meant to be a leisurely and fun drive.

I ask that anyone who feels uncomfortable driving around curves on the road opt to follow closer to the back as the roads will be curvy in the beginning of the trip. It is okay if you feel less comfortable driving on curvy roads.

NOTE: It is very possible the trip will end sooner than the listed end time, I just put a lot of time to give us room to explore as we wish. If we stop at Balcones, dogs will not be allowed unless they stay in your vehicle.
